Blue Light on Firestick Remote – Fix

As a user of the Amazon Firestick, I have experienced a problem on a few occasions where a flashing blue light will appear on my remote. I couldn’t figure out how to make the light go off, and I didn’t know what I did to make the light turn on.

After researching this issue, I discovered that when the blue light is on, Alexa is listening for a command. Sometimes the light gets stuck on for some reason. It seems like a bug in the hardware. But I have seen a case where this issue happened because the remote got moisture trapped inside.

At any rate, you can perform these steps to turn off the blue light on the Firestick remote:

Fix 1 – Reset Alexa

Press and hold the Microphone🎙️ button on the remote for about 20 seconds. The light should then finally clear.

Fix 2 – Reset the Remote

  1. Unplug the Fire TV from its power source and wait 60 seconds.
  2. Press and hold Left on the directional pad ◐, Menu ☰, and Back Fire TV Remote Back Button buttons simultaneously for about 15 seconds.
  3. Wait 5 seconds, then remove the batteries from the remote.
  4. Plug the Fire TV back into its power source and wait 60 seconds.
  5. Place the batteries back into the remote.
  6. Press the Home button on the remote.

Fix 3 – Replace Remote Batteries

Low batteries in the remote can cause all kinds of strange issues. Try replacing the batteries in the remote with a fresh set.

Fix 4 – Clean Remote

This is what the problem was in my case. My kid had gotten some sticky syrup into the remote.

Be sure that nothing has spilled into the remote buttons. If there is any liquid or debris trapped in the button, it could be triggering Alexa. That would then cause the blue light to illuminate.

Try cleaning the remote with a damp cloth, and pay special attention to cleaning around the microphone button.

If you suspect that the remote has been damaged from getting wet or debris stuck in it, you should try a replacement remote.

I hope one of the fixes in this post has helped you solve this problem. Let me know how it worked for you in the comments.
